“The Lady of the Lighthouse” is a work dedicated to my mother, and more generally a tribute to all mothers. Just as the Lady of the Lighthouse stands upon the rock with immense strength and patience, so too is the mother the rock – the supporter in our hardships and difficulties.
She is a piece of our soul; she is longing, devotion, respect, and need – the embodiment of selfless love. The light from the lighthouse is her spirit that guides us, giving us strength, courage, and inspiration to fight through the storms of life, even when she will no longer be with us.
Thank you, mother.

THE LADY OF THE LIGHTHOUSE
An Act of Gratitude, A Moment of Connection
“Lady of the Lighthouse” is one of the most emotionally resonant piece in Nikos Katris’s collection.
Dedicated to the artist’s own mother, this sculpture serves as a universal tribute to mothers everywhere. Under Katris’s chisel, motherhood is not portrayed as something fragile, but as a granite rock of strength and endurance. Mother is the figure who stands tall amidst life’s storms, offering refuge and guidance to her children.
The symbolism within the work is multi-layered. Just as the Lady of the Lantern grips the rock with immense power and fortitude, a mother serves as the primary support through life’s hardships and sorrows.
The Essence of Resilience
Artistically, “Lady of the Lighthouse” confronts the pain of loss and transfigures it into light. It represents the moment when a person is “broken” by hardship but is rebuilt even stronger. At Cave Art Gallery, this piece often evokes a profound internal stirring and a deep, respectful silence among visitors. It is not a sculpture that seeks to impress through technical mastery alone – though it possesses it in abundance – but rather through the raw truth of the emotion it radiates.

An Eternal Maternal Light
Katris describes the mother as a piece of our very soul—the personification of selfless love, respect, and fundamental need. The light emanating from the lantern in the sculpture symbolizes the maternal spirit, which continues to guide us and provide inspiration, even when she is no longer physically present in our lives.

A Legacy of Gratitude
For Nikos Katris, creating this work was a necessary act of gratitude. For the visitor, it is an opportunity to reconnect with their own “roots.”. It is a work that does not merely decorate a space but touches the inner world of anyone who stands before it, functioning as a beacon of hope and eternal gratitude.

In a rapidly changing world, “The Lady of the Lighthouse” remains a steady point of reference, reminding us that love is the only force capable of taming life’s tempests.
